Another
Venom in the water this is Dean Farrel’s boat Becca Marie.
He built
the boat himself and is well pleased with the result.
She is
powered by a 500hp Iveco Cursor, on sea trials she was slightly quicker
than Outcast but is a much heavier boat due to the fact she is well
equipped and carries just about everything.
Dean
obviously likes to travel in style. Nice one Dean and good luck with
your venture. |

Some more
pictures of Outcast now ready for the dive season with lift and benches
fitted.
The
intention was to run Outcast as a demo boat and work her at the weekends
but sadly the intended skipper had a change of heart and so Grahame has
ended up running her himself.
Outcast
has been a big hit with the divers; they especially like the side
benches rather than one in the middle and the flush deck.
The 420hp
Iveco NEF seems the perfect solution for speed and economy. She cruises
happily fully loaded with divers and kit at 12 knots at 2100rpm This
speed seems to provide the best economy she will obviously cruise much
faster. The NEF revs to 3000rpm so is well in the comfort zone Loaded
with eight tekie divers and their insane amount of kit flat out she hit
22 knots.
Fuel is
averaging out at about 2 litres per mile and Grahame is logging every
mile and every litre over the season. The brief with Outcast was to
build an economical dive platform and not a flying machine and so far
she hasn’t disappointed. |

So here
we are at last it’s been a long time coming but well worth the wait.
The dry
boat weighed in at 5.7 tons bang on target. With tanks three-quarter
fuelled and all her equipment less radar, rails, and a liferaft,
420Hp took her to a staggering 28.5 knots with two persons onboard.
She turns
on a sixpence, steers astern, doesn’t push a mountain of water, the
stern doesn’t dig in and most of all her stability and headsea
performance are beyond even our expectations.
Well done
to all concerned especially Cliff and Damaris who have given this
project drive, passion, blood, sweat and few tears. More pictures soon. |

Well here
she is just awaiting the finishing touches. If anyone out there still
thinks Venom is a variant of anything that’s gone before I hope these
pictures make you think again.
If you
still aren’t convinced come and have a look you will be blown away!
"Trust me"
as someone once said.
Next update
she will be on the water and we will be completely restyling the website
to celebrate. |

Yet
another yellow kit emerges (please someone have a different colour we
keep having to wear sunglasses) Talking to various angling skippers and
dive boat skippers it is apparent there is a general air of doom and
gloom due mainly to fuel prices. Whilst I as a skipper myself I
sympathise lets not all talk ourselves out of business look on the
bright side.
Fuel is an
issue for most and if you are that concerned why not fit a modest engine
in a Venom and travel at displacement speed? The hull design makes this
possible with a comfortable ride. No banging and slapping as with most
cathedral type hulls at low speed and a big reduction in that fuel bill. |

Work goes
on with the Venoms and excitement is building, as launch day gets
nearer. Dive boat skipper Paul Pike is seen here testing the facilities.
He was so impressed he bought a boat!! The decks are down and tanks are
going in on the twin version and Outcast is now ready for her power unit
an Iveco NEF 420HP We have just started the next kit which will be a
little longer in build due to annual holidays and a much needed rest.
2008 is a big year for us with the first Venoms about to hit the water.
We are dealing with many enquiries home and abroad however orders have
slowed as everyone waits to see what Venom can do.
Thanks to
all who had so much faith they bought a Venom before we sea trialed the
first one and special thanks goes to C&O engineering for all their help
and enthusiasm and to Mitchell marine who are currently building three
Venoms. |

The latest Venom emerges. This is our first twin

in. Outcast is coming on well at Mitchell marine and we will be on the
water in February. We are currently building the next Venom for stock. |

Latest pictures show Venoms under construction and
the keel blank being moulded in readiness to mould our first twin
engined Venom. Doors are proving popular and not just for the Venom. For
those contemplating a home build and not having anywhere to put their
boat undercover, take a leaf out of Paul’s book. He works happily away
in there with Karen, a proper little Love shack!! |

This Venom will
eventually come to Weymouth as the dive boat Outcast. Currently she is
in Cornwall at Mitchell Marine for fit out. As you can see we are
burning the midnight oil to keep ahead of the game. There are exciting
new plans for 2008 to dramatically increase production. |

Those considering a home
build often have trouble finding somewhere to do it. Not so our intrepid
customer. Just need a big crane to get it over the house, oh and sorry
darling the garden is out of bounds and finally just dig the lawn up a
bit to level her up. Blimey Paul however did you negotiate that deal
with Karen! RESPECT!!
Thanks to Jock Heighway
and Dorset Crane Hire who were brilliant. There were times when you just
couldn’t look, but not a scratch.

Our first production hull and
wheelhouse at last we are nearly there. We only have the Foredeck mould
to complete now and after what seems an eternity the Venom is almost
ready for full production. The whole process from design to this stage
has as any major project had it’s ups and downs. The team however were
determined not to cut corners or go in to production until everything
was perfect and now that time is here! |

Work is
continuing on the demo boat somewhat slowly as we document every
process, nice to see the lines with gunwale in place. Behind the yellow
boat is our first production hull complete with bulkheads due for
delivery in March. Work is now under way on the last plug, which is the
foredeck. We needed to mould a wheelhouse first to make sure the mating
of the two was spot on. |

News June 2006 |

Wheelhouse plug construction is
underway and the final polishing has been taking place in the completed
hull mould. The first pre-production prototypes of the cabin door and
frame have been moulded and assembled complete with door furniture.
These fully assembled units will soon be in production and have been
designed as a universal bulkhead mounted unit that will fit virtually
any vessel not just the Venom. At last the patio door or wooden
monstrosity can be discarded in favour of a modern stylish assembly that
doesn’t cost the earth. |

News April 2006 |
|
The hull plug is now complete and fully
faired. The final spraying and polishing process is underway and we are making
preparations to take a mould. |
 |
 |
We have already completed various small mouldings
such as the cabin door, hatches and exhaust outlet. |
|
We will be adding to this
list of small moulds and all will be available to make building the Venom as
simple as possible. |

Interest in the new boat has been
phenomenal and already three have been sold, there are further enquiries in the
pipeline so the Venom is off to a great start. |

|
Offshore 125 What Next? |
|
Now all the tooling for
Venom is complete and the boat is in production we have time to think of
other things. We still have the moulds for the Offshore 125 and they
take up considerable space. It is time to consider if the 125 is still
worth producing or has her time come. The 125 is an awesome machine,
which those that have had one have loved. Certainly as a dive charter
vessel it is number one amongst the divers and the customer as we know
is always right. If we put her back in to production it would only be as
a stage one kit and the order book would have to number three to justify
the effort. However there is one firm taker so who knows the jury is out
on this old faithful. |
