Offshore 125The jury has been out on the 125 for a long while. Since buying the moulds from Rod Baker six years ago we have constructed a new gunwale and wheelhouse mould.
The new tooling has only produced two boats so far as our attention has focused on the Venom. As the popularity of catamarans grew and fuel costs soared we didn’t see much of a future for this sturdy go anywhere workhorse until now. Our experiences in the dive charter world have left us in no doubt that today’s divers prefer the motion and deck space compared to catamarans of similar size added to this the massive below deck space and load carrying capacity.
We have been on the point of cutting up the moulds for sometime to make more room in the workshop being aware that the dive charter market alone would not justify keeping the vessel in production. However after much thought we can see possibilities in the work boat market and may be in the angling market, what we needed to do was improve head sea performance and economy everything else the 125 does in style.
We have subjected a model of the hull to rigorous hydrodynamic testing and carried out what were only minor improvements with outstanding results. Even in these difficult times there is interest in the 125 and after securing an order for the improved version we are sure that there is a place in the market for the 125. We also have a 46ft version on the drawing board so it looks like the big old brute is back for good.
